Decree of the Council of the Four Lands regarding the dispute between the communities of Leżajsk and Tarnogród about the affiliation of lease-holders

The tribunal of rabbis during the Council of the Four Lands sitting in Jarosław, settled the dispute concerning the belonging of the leaseholders and innkeepers from the villages of Piskorowice, Tarnawiec, and Brzyska Wola to the benefit of the community in Leżajsk. The arguments of Tarnogród elders that the abovementioned villages, disconnected from Leżajsk and joined to Tarnogród, should pay taxes to this community, were refuted. Two elders of the Leżajsk kahal were obliged to take an oath to prove the affiliation of the unlawfully separated minor kahals. Court judgments issued by the Tarnogród kahal regarding these leaseholders and innkeepers were cancelled. From then on taxes were to be paid according to the disposition of the elder of the Leżajsk kahal.
