Decree of the Kraków-Sandomierz elders with the approval of the treasurer regarding the dispute between the Działoszyn community and their leaseholders

The elders at the regional council in Pacanów responded to the complaint of Działoszyn elders regarding the arendators from nearby villages, who refused to pay the double poll tax because of impoverishment, and confirmed the old land judgements, under which all Jews living within 4 Polish miles of Działoszyn were subordinated to the Działoszyn community. In addition, they were obliged to pay taxes through their own community, where they also had to attend religious services. The land decree provided that the Działoszyn elders will be free to issue to their leaseholders assignments to pay the poll tax of the same amount as those issued by the tax administration. Under the threat of a curse, Jews from neighboring villages were forbidden to perform private religious services. Land elders stressed that one should not give protection to those Jews who do not want to pay taxes in their land or conduct religious practices in a city that is not part of the Kraków-Sandomierz land. The decree was approved by the grand treasurer of the Crown, Jan Jerzy Przebendowski.
