Universal of Bełz Starost Franciszek Salezy Potocki on the equality of Chełm and Bełz land elders
Franciszek Salezy Potocki, Bełz starost, with the consent of Antoni Michał Potocki, Bełz voivode, issues a universal due to instances of disobeying the decision of Grand Crown Treasurer Jan Jerzy Przebendowski, from September 18, 1724, by Chełm land elders. In that decision Przebendowski ordered that an equal number of elders be appointed by Jews from the Bełz voivodeship and the Chełm land to participate in land councils. During the Crown Jews’ councils, Jews from the Chełm-Bełz land should be alternately represented by a Chełm or Bełz elder and trustee.
