Declaration of the elders of the Chełm kahal against the elders of the Chełm and Bełz land
The elders of the Chełm kahal declare against the land elders of Chełm, Bełz, Hrubieszów, Luboml, Tyszowce, and Narol, that, the land elders did not take into account the bad condition of the community and did not inform them that they had entered into wyderkauf contracts with nobles and the clergy, requiring Chełm Jews to pay the commission on these sums. They also declare that the land elders had embezzled the money borrowed on behalf of the land, and that they covertly put together the allocation, without giving any tax deduction to Chełm Jews.
