Letter of Chaim Lewkowicz to Marcin Zamoyski, the Crown treasurer

Chaim Lewkowicz, on behalf of other Crown elders, confirmed the readiness to come and reward the treasurer for his protection (grace), but, he explained, that they could not come because of Zamoyski’s departure to Warsaw when the king was in Jaworów. He also reported that they had allocated 6,000 zlotys from the May installment for the treasurer, and that they were ready to hand over to him, personally, the assignations to the Jews of Kraków, Lublin, and Chełm. Regarding the allocation of the Jewish poll tax, he reported that the allocation into the May installment was sent back, while the August installment would be sent back after the meeting with the treasurer.
