Universal of Jan III Sobieski to Jews of the Bełz voivodeship and Chełm land
As a result of numerous supplications of complaint against the current land elders and rabbis of Bełz voivodeship and Chełm land, King Jan III Sobieski, dismisses them from their offices and orders the appointing of a special committee (with two delegates from each town) led by Chona Markowicz. The committee’s task is to settle the bills of the current elders and introduce order in the land.
